Df3d eXtrud3it Now Available as Cloud-Based App on Google Play–Take Your Selfies Straight to 3D Print

Angling strongly toward the Android fan base, Google Play allows for the downloading of apps, as well as music, movies, and more–which can all be stored in the cloud. Users can download the new eXtrud3it app to take selfies, 3D print them, and more.

"If the .stl file is 3d printed and a light source is placed behind it, one can see the image of the person," co-founder and director of df3d Deepak Raj told 3DPrint.com. "The settings for the extrusion are optimized for a selfie with good ambient light. As you can see, this is a slightly different version of the extrud3it which we released as a web-based tool a few months back."

While the tool began as web-based function that could also be included on business websites in snippet form, df3D has not only developed it into a full-fledged app for everyone, but apparently there is more to look forward to in the near future as well, with this current release being viewed as experimental.

"It is our first release and we feel good about small steps," Raj told 3DPrint.com. "We will be releasing more apps for 3d printing in the coming months."

The 3D models can be printed by the users, or sent to df3d for 3D printing. Only a few simple steps are involved either way, beginning with choosing a 2D image or taking a selfie. Once captured with the smartphone camera, you can check out your image in the 3D viewer on the app. To download the app, you must be operating on Android 4.0.3 and up.
