Vintique is the ideal app if you want to apply vintage effects to your photos and videos. The app applies effects in real-time for photos and videos — what you see is what you get. In addition, you can further tweak contrast, saturation, vibrance, temperature, exposure and other settings to get the desired results. There are more than 100 filters available as well the option to add frames, texture and flare effects.
Boomerang (iOS & Android)
Developed by the Instagram Team, Boomerang lets you create mini videos with a back and forth loop effect. The app captures 10 photos in a burst, stitches them together and even removes any shakes from the final video. There is no sign-up required and you can create videos using the primary or the front camera. Do keep in mind that all videos you shoot with the app are automatically saved to your device.
Fyuse (iOS & Android)
The concept behind this is to enable you to capture 3D photos of any subject. It requires you to capture the subject from different angles and with information from your phone's accelerometer, gravity and gyro sensor, it stitches the photos together to create a 360 degree 3D photo. You can swipe/tilt your screen to move around to view the photos from different angles. The app also has its own social network so that you can share your photos or view others.
Horizon Camera (iOS & Android)
How often have you ended up with a mix of horizontal and vertical videos simply because you rotated your phone? Horizon forces your phone to record video and take photos in horizontal orientation irrespective of how you hold the phone. It even auto-levels your videos so that they are parallel to the ground. The app supports up to 4k video recording and even offers slow motion recording.
LiveBlend (iOS only)
This Rs 60 app is the only one available that lets you creates double exposure photos in realtime. You select one pho to from your library and the app will then use your phone camera's feed to show an overlaid double exposure result. The app even lets you capture double exposure videos in full HD resolution. If you prefer to use existing photos for double exposure, you can check out apps like Fused and Instant Blend.
Paper Camera (iOS & Android)
This free app shows you various cartoon effects in real-time on your smartphone from your phone's camera feed. You can cycle through various effects in real-time including sketch, comic-book, half tone, noir and so on. There is also an option to change the brightness, contrast, edges, strokes manually. While the app is free for iOS, there will be a watermark placed on all images (you need to pay Rs 120 to remove it, Rs 120 for added control and Rs 120 to allow you to import videos into the app rather than capture through the app). Android users will have to pay Rs 156 upfront to install the app.
Candy Camera (iOS & Android)
F or selfie enthusiasts, Candy Camera is the app that is recommended. The app shows real-time effects of various filters while taking a selfie. The app developers claim that the filters are specifically designed for best selfie results. There is a silent camera mode in which you can take a selfie without a loud shutter noise. In addition, it offers a handy beautify function for improving selfies, a collage mode and the option to apply stickers.
Camera FV-5 (Android only)
While the number of phone manufacturers who are now including a pro-mode on their camera interface is increasing, it is still not available on a majority of phones. The FV-5 app adds some DSLR level controls such as ISO, white balance, exposure bracketing and compensation and even a focus mode on your smartphone. The built-in intervalometer can be used to create timelapse videos and it supports long exposure photos too. Depending on your device capability, the app will let you save images in the DNG RAW fo rmat. To access all features, you will need to purchase the app for Rs 199. There is a free Lite version that you can try out before buying, but it limits the resulting image to VGA resolution.

Tadaa SLR ( Rs 250, iOS only)
This iOS exclusive app gives you advanced control to add depth of field as well as bokeh effect on your photos. It has an easyto-use 'tap to focus' system that works surprisingly well. Moreover, there is also option to mask or erase a particular object from the photo with option to auto detect edges to keep things simple. You can even adjust the level of blur, highlights and overall effect to suit your taste.
Enlight ( Rs 250, iOS only)
If there was ever an all-in-one editing app you could get for iOS, this is it! The sheer number of filters, effects and tools Enlight gives you is amazing. To start with, it gives you a scrolling camera roll so that you can select images to edit in an instant. The toolbar is always vis ible and can be swiped away to increase your work space. You can edit, adjust, crop, skew, refit, adjust clarity, add filters, remove objects, heal, patch, posterize, add text, decals, convert to meme, make collages, adjust for Instagram — the list goes on. Once done you can share from within the app. If that wasn't enough, it also lets you choose output quality (even PNG, TIFF) and there are a bunch of built in tutorials that can guide you through advanced techniques like double exposure, gradients and masks.
Snapwire (iOS & Android)
SnapWire offers a list of paid photo requests by various brands. You can submit existing photos or capture a new one. If your photo is nominated, you get points. If it gets selected, you get paid! You can even create your own photo portfolio on the app for interested parties to view and purchase photos. We've seen photo requests that can pay as high as US$1,000.
