Exploring the camera on the Lumia 950 (video)

The Lumia flagship lineup of devices have always been known for stellar imaging capabilities, and the Lumia 950 and its bigger brother, the Lumia 950 XL, are no exceptions.

Using the camera app is simple. Gone are the Windows Phone 8 days of having a separate Lumia Camera app. Now, with Windows 10 Mobile and newer versions of Windows Phone 8.1, all camera interaction is done through the default camera app. Interestingly, the deprecated app may still remain in store for some users, and installing it may cause the camera app to crash upon opening, rendering the camera virtually unusable. Solving this requires uninstalling the camera app, and going into camera settings and fiddling with some of the settings (I could not consistently replicate the exact method for the fix).

Opening the camera app can be done in one of three ways: by pressing the camera button, by opening the Camera app, and by opening the notifications panel (swipe down from the top of the screen) and hitting the Camera option.

On the top of the camera app window reside the controls for tuning the desired settings to capture the best pictures. On the right are controls to dictate which camera to use, and to manipulate Camera app settings. On the top left is a small circle that opens the library of images taken with the Camera. Finally, on the top right is the button with the three dots, which exposes even more settings to change.

To shoot the picture or video, hit on the large camera button on the center right, or just press the dedicated camera button.

Pictures are shot almost instantly, and you can preview them through the photo bubble on the top left. Immediately after any picture is taken, the Lumia 950 will do so additional post-processing for a few seconds that prevents you from modifying the picture. However, you can still swipe through them and preview all the pictures you've taken.

Watch the video above to see all this in action.
