Google Nexus 5X firmware update fixes major camera bugs and performance issues

The Google Nexus 5X has reportedly been plagued with issues related primarily to camera performance and also to severe lag and slow downs. Not all users are affected, but those who are, report major performance issues. A Google community manager took to Reddit to announce that Google has released factory images that apparently fix these issues. He also mentioned that OTA (Over The Air) updates would be rolling out to all users shortly.

If the complaints are to be believed, users report that the camera repeatedly crashes and freezes. Third-party camera apps have also not helped apparently, which indicates that this is a firmware issue rather than a software bug.

Other users report major lag and stuttering within the UI as well. All of these issues and more will be fixed in the upcoming update. Reports from other users who've updated via the factory images indicate that the performance difference is "night and day."

If you own a Nexus 5X and the performance issues are driving you up the wall, you can directly flash the factory images from here. Be warned, you'll be formatting your phone and erasing all data, so ensure that all your important data is backed up first. If you can bear with the issues for a while or haven't been severely impacted by the issues, waiting for the OTA is a viable option.
