KATHMANDU, July 6: You are an aspiring filmmaker, one who has rich ideas and awesome stories to tell. But filmmaking is an expensive endeavor; it takes a lot of time and burns a large hole in your pocket. In that scenario your smartphone can always take a little load off your shoulders. Here are some essential filmmaking apps that will take you from pre-production to production without making you lose your money and your mind.

Celtx IndexCards

Writers have been using index cards for a long time. They are an invaluable tool you could use to jot down all of your raw ideas before jumping in to write your screenplay or novel. With the Celtx IndexCards you can properly organize and conceptualize your story ideas. You can use the app to write scene summaries, work on the outline of your screenplay or just use it to take story notes.

Celtx Script

Typing an entire screenplay on your phone can be a daunting task. However, if you are up for it, Celtx Script is here for you. It has a powerful formatting feature that can easily arrange your scene headings, scene descriptions and dialogues into the standard screenplay format.

Shot Designer

Unless you want to improvise everything on the day of your shoot, it is better to do some essential pre-planning homework. This can include storyboarding the entire film to the point that you are sure about the camera angle, actors' blocking and camera movement, all of which will demand more time and crew members. But if you don't have that kind of money you can always download the Shot Designer app by Hollywood Camera Work. It comes with multidimensional features to help you pre-visualize your movie. You will see how easy it is to make floor-plans and camera diagrams for the shoot. Storyboarding is also made simple because the app allows you to make animated storyboards and help you determine the right camera lens and angle with its camera diagrams for the shoot. Storyboarding is also made simple because the app allows you to make animated storyboards and help you determine the right camera lens and angle with its Director's Viewfinder and Shot List functions.

Digi Slate

Clapper boards may appear to be fairly inexpensive devices but they cost a lot. You can always make your DIY Clapper board or use your hands to clap instead. They will perfectly work as well but when you have the Digi Slate app all the other hacks wouldn't be necessary. It is easier to enter the scene number, take number and camera angle with the Digi Slate. And it makes a perfectly crisp clap sound.

All the apps are free and are available for both IOS and Android users, esxcept Digi Slate which is only available in the IOS version.
