There are a couple of competitors, namely Ricoh Theta and Samsung Gear 360 -the makers duly offer a full spec comparison on their Indiegogo page. Like the others, you can control the camera plus see a live view on the companion app. Unlike the others, Nico is waterproof without the need for a cover.
There will be a range of accessories available such as a VR headset, bike mount, helmet mounts and so o n. At the time of writing, the project has already been funded - they had a modest $50,000 goal. The $99 early bird offer is sold out but you can still get in on the action at $129 onwards. They will ship internationally in October 2016.
CASE remote: Smart accessory for a DSLRThe typical DSLR is not as 'smart' as a smartphone camera. But this accessory wants to change that -it will add wireless capabilities, remote capture, remote live view and control over various exposure settings -to your compatible Nikon or Canon DSLR (A wide range of models are supported -a list has been put up on their Indiegogo page). You can mount the CASE on your camera's hotshot and connect it to your camera's USB for power. Then, it will generate its own WiFi hotspot, which your mobile device can connect to, after downloading the companion app. In addition, it allows you to do things like time lapse, auto focus and sharinguploading of stored images. The device itself has a battery life of 6 hours and is really tiny and lightweight (61 x 41 x 10mm, 50 grams) -it won't add much to your camera's and overall equipment weight, but you can't argue with the convenience. Prices start at US$79 (plus shipping) and it is expected to ship to backers in October this year.
