Underdog app Infltr is first to bring photo filters to iOS messaging platform

Filter fans can now choose from over 7 million digital effects — without even leaving the iOS text messaging app. A recent app update now allows Infltr users to apply effects to video, including live video and stills inside the iOS messaging app.

While Infltr has a smaller audience compared to the App Store's top-ranked image editors, developer Yoosher Ltd. says the app is the first to bring filter capabilities directly into the iPhone (and iPad) messaging app.

The latest version expands on the the app's February update that brought the filters to Apple's moving Live Photos, now giving users access to the filters for video. Unlike most video filters, users can swipe while the video is playing to swap out the filter, taking the stop-start out of the equation when trying out different options.

Users can now also apply a filter to live video feeds shared with other iMessage users. With the update, tapping on the camera icon inside iMessage brings up an Infltr option, bringing the app's capabilities for both stills, Live Photos and video to the messaging platform without the back and forth between apps.

The iMessage version of the app offers a long line of colored dots for selecting different filters — a look which will be familiar to the app's current users. A quick tap of the photo will also trade out the filter for a different one.

Infltr, named for their almost endless filter options now numbering over 7 million, allows users inside the app to swipe in any direction to quickly change the filter, making it a bit simpler to discover new options from the platform's wide selection. The app allows for adjusting both existing still photos and Live Photos, along with the new video and iOS messaging live capabilities.

Infltr, an iOS-only app, is available from the App Store for $3.
