Apple iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone 6S Plus: Should you upgrade?

Apple Inc. on Sept. 9 introduced a new set of iPhones, iPhone 6S, and 6S Plus. Considering the bigger sibling for this comparison, we will be putting the iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone 6 Plus in head-to-head comparison and see which one wins.

Design:

Not much of a difference to a naked eye, however, when put on the measuring scale, the iPhone 6S Plus is 0.2 mm thicker, a little heavier and stronger than ever before. The reason behind this is the inclusion of 3D Touch, commonly known as Force Touch from Apple, and the reinforced Aluminum 7000 alloy shell.

Antenna lines and protruding camera still exists on the iPhone 6S Plus, and apparently both the smartphone look almost similar in many terms.

Talking the iPhone 6S Plus, then we have an enclosed 'S' written on the back side of the device.

Camera:

Big upgrades for the iPhone 6S Plus this year. Last year, Apple introduced the iPhone 6 Plus featuring an 8MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization and a 720p FaceTime camera. However, the 6S Plus now features better MP and camera app features.

iPhone 6S Plus camera now features a 12MP camera with 1.22µ pixels, Live Photos, Autofocus with Focus Pixels, True Tone flash, Panorama (up to 63 megapixels), Auto HDR for photos, Exposure control, Burst mode, Timer mode, ƒ/2.2 aperture, Five-element lens, Hybrid IR filter, Backside illumination sensor, Sapphire crystal lens cover, Auto image stabilization, Improved local tone mapping, Improved noise reduction, Face detection, and Photo geotagging.

FaceTime camera has also been upgraded with a 5MP snapper and a TrueTone flash. Apple added a little chip as a companion of the A9 processor to fully illuminate the Retina display and create the effects of a flash.

Processors and Specifications:

iPhone 6 Plus comes with a dual-core A8 processor clocked at 1.4GHz and has a GB of RAM. Apparently, that was enough to run almost everything, but apparently with the 3D Touch the iPhone 6S Plus is going to store even more power under the hood.

The new A9 processor in the iPhone 6S Plus is 70 percent faster than the 6 Plus and delivers 90 percent more GPU power. Pre-order starts 12 Sept and till the iPhone 6S Plus is out, there is apparently no way by which we can judge the underlying GPU on this newly introduced smartphone. Also, the new M9 coprocessor now rests inside the A9 processor unit.

Other than that, we are hoping a 2GB of RAM and also there is a new haptic feedback engine placed near the speaker and headphone jack compartment.

Display:

iPhone 6 Plus features a Retina 5.5-inch LED-backlit with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution at 401 PPI  and1300:1 contrast ratio. iPhone 6S Plus, on the other hand, comes with the same type of display but features 3D Touch capabilities.

The 3D Touch is a new kind of technology similar to Force Touch on the Watch. Apparently, Apple made a gap between the two parts in the display and soon a force is applied the sensors beneath measure the depth and amount of pressure applied.

It opens a whole new world of the shortcuts for the native and third party applications. Currently, Facebook and Instagram are providing options to let the 3D Touch work on their apps.

Variants and Pricing:

We are looking at the same 16GB/64GB/128GB configurations with a new color option, Rose Gold, along with the Space Gray, Gold, and Silver variants.

No difference in the prices on contract and unlocked smartphones, but we have a new Apple launched scheme offering the iPhone 6S Plus on lease for $32 a month and with AppleCare+ free of cost. With this, it is now possible to upgrade your iPhone every year, and apparently use it with any network provider only if companies like AT&T refrain themselves from locking it the way they did with iPad Air 2 Apple SIM.

Verdict:

iPhone 6S Plus is worth buy, as there is a new camera upgrade, processor, 3D Touch and new bend-gate proof shell. Also, the new Apple iPhone lease plans look more attractive than going with a carrier. The company is going to make profits out of it, but you will have the freedom to choose any carrier.
