App reveals man who has teenager’s missing smartphone

DENVER – A Denver woman is asking for help finding her son's lost cell phone. Thanks to a special app, they have a photo of the man who found it. They just don't know who he is.

The app they used is called CM Locker, but there are several similar ones available for both iPhone and Android.

How it works

When the phone's password is input wrong, the phone snaps a photo from the front-facing camera, which captures the user's face. The app then emails you the photo so you know who has it.

Heidi Whitehead's son lost his phone last week. The Android device has the app installed and they have received two emails with photos of a man who appears to have found it.

"Hopefully he's trying to figure out how to get it back to its rightful owner. He probably has no idea it belongs to a teenager," she said.

Looking for the guy in the photos

Whitehead posted the photos on Facebook. Her post has been shared more than a hundred times. She is asking the community to help her identify the man to get her son's phone back, no questions asked.

"My initial hope was that somebody would just recognize him and say oh hey I know that guy, he lives down the street or I work with him or whatever," Whitehead said.

Whitehead says they have called the phone several times but no one ever answers. If you recognize the man in the photos, send us an email to tips@kdvr.com.
