BlackBerry Priv, the first Android smartphone from the troubled-Canadian tech company, has gotten a new set of updates which offer improved camera performance, launcher and keyboard.

BlackBerry announced the update on their official blog and said that the application updates are now live on Google Play, including the ones for BlackBerry Launcher, BlackBerry Keyboard, and BlackBerry Camera.

So what are the new features in the BlackBerry Priv update? Here's a quick look.

Camera

BlackBerry Priv's Camera now has support for slow motion video (120 fps). The Slow Motion function can be accessed through the camera's "Mode" button, but does not support audio for now.

Keyboard

PRIV's prediction engine now processes a user's email, other messages to understand their typing style. It can also learn words with numbers, and there's an option for the keyboard to suggest names from a user's contacts.

'Fine Cursor Control' mode on the physical keyboard now has an enhanced cursor locator, along with on-screen arrows for easier positioning and control. Additionally holding down 'delete' for two seconds now deletes on a word-by-word basis.

App Launcher

In default view for apps, users will see them divided into Recent, Personal, and Work.  Users can now flick to remove application shortcuts from the home screen, and pop-up widgets are now enabled by default. Apps installed on the SD card will appear in grey if the card is removed indicating that the app is not accessible.

In our review we had noted that the keyboard was the clear USP of the Priv, both functional and practical like any BlackBerry QWERTY.  The other strong point for BlackBerry Priv has to be its call quality. In our review, we said, "This phone has one of the best call quality I have experienced in recent times, both on the handset and on speaker phone."

With the Priv, what didn't impress us was the camera and how hot the phone got, with just a couple of minutes of browsing. Our review notes, "The BlackBerry Priv can become really hot, especially when you are browsing or using some of the apps. There is a spot about the size of a Rs 5 coin, just where you hold the phone, that heats up every time you use the phone for over five minutes or so."

In India, the Priv is priced at above Rs 62,000 and given the pricing, BlackBerry hasn't created this Android flagship for everyone.
