GoPro Will Soon Release Two New Editing Apps

GoPro announced today it will soon be releasing two new mobile apps to aid users in their process of developing aesthetic videos/images on GoPro devices. One app will provide the users more functions to have better control over the device and the other is proposed to create GoPro content automatically. The apps will be available for download (Free) on both android and iOS platform.

The app seems to have been in development for a while as the app announcement points towards the company's acquirement of Quik and Splice's team and reportedly spent $105M on both the apps. The company tweaked the application and released it again. But, Quik is currently available on Android and iOS whereas Splice is currently iOS exclusive.

The Quik app provides users an easy editing tool to sync audio-visuals together. Splice lets the users control their device better. In GoPro's press release, the company said the Splice app will allow users to edit professionally, include add-ons like text, transitions, trimming clips, basically the app would be similar to the current software by GoPro for PC. Splice also has a library of music built in with the app. The music could probably be free-to-use in the new GoPro app to encourage users to upload the same content in platforms like YouTube.

For a while, GoPro devices were a game changer and the only option of purchase for consumers. The best portable underwater camera could soon be replaced by other companies like Nikon. Although its device didn't gain much traction, Tech companies are setting their foot in portable cameras and it won't be a one-man- race for long.

The app can certainly bring shift in 'industry standard tools' as it currently requires users to upload their content in PC and later edit them in post-processing softwares.  But, is the app for intermediate users or can it attract even professionals? Only time will tell.
